Game 10 ~ Sandgnats 3 - Scrappers 3

We had our third close game of the year with the Scrappers. In the three games we played them, we won a game (2-1), lost a game (2-1) and we tied in our final game of the season (3-3).

Robert and Ryan did a nice job pitching again. Ryan had 2 strikeouts and Robert had a key strikeout against one of the Scrappers best hitters.

The Scrappers scored 3 quick runs to take a 3-0 lead in the top of the first. The Sandgnats came back and scored 2 in the bottom of the first to make it 3-2.

Robert and Cody made a very nice defensive play when Robert picked up a ground ball in front of the pitchers mound and threw to Cody covering second base for a force out.

Dalton had his best hit of the year, a triple to left field and then he scored the third run to tie the game.

It was a great season this year and I want to thank all the boys, coaches and parents for another fun year of baseball. Special thanks to Patty Webb for volunteering to be our team mom again this year.

Game 9 ~ Sandgnats 5 - Muckdogs 1

Hello Sandgnat fans,

We had our best game of the year today. The boys improved their record to 6-2-1 by beating the Muckdogs, 5-1. Cody and Jacob had an excellent day pitching and the defense played well.

The bats really came alive today as well. The following boys had hits in the game:

Our final game of the year is Saturday May 9th at 9:00am.

Closing Ceremonies will be on Saturday May 16th from 10:00am - 1:00pm. There will be a trophy ceremony and cookout along with a bounce house, dunk tank and obstacle course. Hope to see you all there.

Game 8 ~ Raptors 6 - Sandgnats 2

We had a tough game this week. It was only our second loss of the season and our record is now 5-2-1. The Raptors were hitting their coach's pitches very well. Our team had excellent at-bats and we got nice hits out of Robert, Justin (2b), Jacob (2 hits), Mickey and Ian. Robert and Ian scored our two runs for us.

Ryan and Robert continued to pitch well and keep getting better each week. Justin had an excellent game playing catcher for the entire game.

Our last two games are coming up on May 2 and May 9. Hope to see all the Sandgnat fans out at the fields!

Game 7 ~ Sandgnats 1 - Muckdogs 1

We played another tough game against the Muckdogs this weekend. The game ended in a 1-1 tie. Our team played great defense today which, but the bats just couldn't get enough runs for us.

Ian scored our only run of the game. The following boys all had nice hits during the game:

Game 6 ~ Sandgnats 4 - Rattlers 3

Saturday was our most exciting game yet. We pulled out our 5th win of the season and the team is now 5-1.

We started off the game with the bats on fire. Justin had a single in the bottom of the first inning and Jacob follwed up with a 2 run homerun to rightfield. The Sandgnats were up 2-0. Our defense gave up 3 runs in the top of the third and the Rattlers were up 3-2. In the bottom of the 4th inning with 2 outs, Dalton and Justin kept the game going with back to back singles. We had Dalton on second base and Justin on first base when Jacob hit a game winning triple to center field. Dalton and Justin scored to win the game 4-3.

Jacob, Joe and Cody all pitched well to help get us the win.

Game 5 ~ Sandgnats 2 - Scrappers 1

The GCLL Sandgnats moved to 4-1 on the season with a 2-1 victory over the Scrappers this past Saturday. The bats were off to a fast start during this game. 4 out of the first 5 batters got hits and we scored 2 runs in the 1st inning. We left two more runners on base in the 2nd. The Scrappers brought in a very good pitcher, but our defense and pitching helped finish the game.

Robert and Ryan pitched another great game giving up only 6 hits and 1 run in 4 innings of work.

Game 4 ~ Sandgnats 3 - Raptors 0

The Sandgnats had another great game today. Cody, Jacob and Justin all pitched the team to victory over the Raptors. Jacob made an outstanding catch on a high pop up to the pitcher.

The whole team did a great job batting this week.

Game 3 ~ Sandgnats 3 - Muckdogs 1

Record ~ 2-1

This was probably our most exciting game of the year. Robert started at pitcher and threw two very good innings. Our bats were quiet in the first two innings, but we scored 1 run in the 3rd and left the bases loaded and then scored 2 more runs in the 4th. Ryan pitched the final two innings and gave up no runs.

The game ended on an exciting groundball to Robert (SS) who threw it to Cody (1B) who made a great backhanded catch.

Game 2 ~ Scrappers 2 - Sandgnats 1

Game 2 was under the lights at Gulf Coast Little League. We lost a very close game to the Scrappers, 2-1. Jacob and Cody both pitched very good games. Ian, Joe, Ethan and Conner all had hits for the Sandgnats. Ethan scored our lone run of the game.

Game 1 ~ Sandgnats 2 - Rattlers 0

We had a great first game of the season. We beat the Rattlers 2-0 in our 3 inning Opening Day game. Ryan and Robert pitched all 3 innings and didn't give up a run. Conner did a nice job playing his first game at catcher and Ian had a great throw from third base to Cody at first that just missed getting the out.

Game 2 will be Tuesday March 3rd at 6:00 pm at the Gulf Coast fields.

Game Schedule Posted

I have posted our game schedule on the calendar below.  Our first game is Saturday Feb. 28th at 9:00am.  I would like the boys to be at the field no later than 15 minutes before game time so we can stretch and throw a little bit.

Most games are at 9:00am on Saturdays.  We do have one Tuesday night (3/3) game this season as well.

If you know in advance some weeks that your son will not be at a game, please let me know so I can adjust our line up for that week.

Patty Webb will be coordinating with all of you on concession stand (home team) and announcing  (visiting team) volunteer oportunities.

Optional Practice - Saturday 2/21/09

We will have an optional practice this Saturday, 2/21/09 from 2:30 - 4:00pm at the TBE baseball field. Hope to see you all there.

Regular practice will be on Monday, 2/23/09 from 6:00 - 7:30pm at the TBE baseball field.

Welcome to the Gulf Coast Little League Sand Gnats blog. My hope is this blog will be a fun and easy way for all of us to share this year's baseball season with each other, family and friends who might not live in SW Florida.
